Funny Moments: Q&A with Alison Wong who took her adventures of being a new mom and created comics that all parents will find amusing and relatable

NEW MOM COMICS: THE FIRST YEAR

New Mom Comics: The First Year is a compilation of a year of comics about the adventures of being a new mom, and is a humorous guide on what to expect. It’s perfect for new or expecting parents, but even those who are experienced will be able to reminisce and relive these funny moments.

What initially sparked your interest in creating these comics that moms (and dads!) can relate to?

I started by creating a personal comic diary to record all of my own new mom stories, but then realized that other new parents were eager to read them too.

Do you have a personal favorite comic you’ve drawn?

My favorite is the one of me checking in to see if he’s breathing, but then accidentally waking him up because my ring hit the crib. That happened more than I’d like to admit!  I think every new parent can relate to wondering if their newborn is breathing

What has been the hardest/most rewarding part of motherhood so far?

You learn to put this little peanut as the priority, and sometimes you (and your spouse) need to take a back seat.  The most rewarding is realizing just how much love you have to give.

Do you hope to create more books as your son continues to grow up? (From terrible twos to raising a teenager!)

I hope so!  Parenting is a long journey, and we are always changing- I’m looking forward to capturing all of that, with some humor to get us through it.

What types of feedback have you received from other parents about the comics?

I’ve gotten comments like, this should be a must read for new parents, this is the real “what to expect,” and the best are when they give personal anecdotes about how they now don’t feel so alone. It’s really comforting to hear that my comics have helped many new parents get through that first first year especially.

Alison lives with her husband and son in the San Francisco Bay Area.
