For this Halloween season, a great treat that you and the kids can make together is Monster cupcakes. For this project we decided to make our own cupcakes, even though you could buy pre-made cupcakes as well.
The preparation is simple. After your cupcakes are ready (baked, cooled and iced), set out your candy. For our project I used an array of different candy items that included gummy worms, M&Ms, white chocolate pieces (this is what we used for the eyes), sprinkles and some fruit slice candy. You can also cut and mold the candy bits. The orange slice candy was pretty big, so I sliced them into smaller pieces.
I separated the candies into their different containers, made a place on our kitchen table for the monster making to progress and let your kids have at it.
My boys loved it. You wouldn’t realize how fun it is to make your own little cupcake monsters. I even have fun making a few myself. The gummy worms were a hit.
This is a messy project, so have wet wipes and the broom nearby. Their fingers were covered with chocolate icing (and so were their mouths).
This project is a fun activity for kids of all ages (including adults). This would be a great activity to do before a get-together. Since there are so many cupcakes it would be hard to eat them all. My kids actually had no interest in eating the cupcakes. I think it is because they filled up on candy while they were making their monsters.
