Writer: Haley Holcomb / Small Town Kids / Summer 2016 Issue
You will recognize some changes to Small Town Kids. This is because the magazine has new owners. Small Town Kids has been acquired by IN Magazine. The new staff is very appreciative of the previous owner, Meredith, for giving IN the opportunity to take the reigns of this awesome magazine. We are extremely devoted to bringing stories to life for the parents of East Texas.
With new owners comes a new editor and that is where I come in. My name is Haley Holcomb and I am pumped to be able to continue the legacy of Small Town Kids.
I’m a mom to a spunky little 3-year old boy and the step-mom to an amazing 8-year old boy.
In my first Mom Chat, I am sharing the recent adventure of taking my toddler to LEGO Land in Grapevine. Summer is upon us, and I love getting new ideas for places and adventures that you can take the kids to do on your spare time.
LEGO Land is at the Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine, Texas. It is not a huge theme park, more of a discovery center, which makes it is a great for smaller children. There are a few rides available but nothing too big. It has an awesome play zone where the kids can go up the tubes and down slides, Parents are not allowed in there with the kids, so the smaller children are not allowed.
My 3-year-old barely met the height requirements and he is pretty tall for his age. There are LEGO displays all around, including MINILAND, a replica of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Very cool to look at, it is amazing what they can make with LEGOs.
There are areas where the kids can build LEGO creations, including one where you build a LEGO car and race it with others. My most favorite part was Pirate Beach. This is a small water area outside of LEGO Land, perfect for smaller children. It’s basically a spray park with small slides and a large bucket that dumps water over the kids. Table and benches are set up so Mommy and Daddy can take a rest and watch your little ones play. Remember to bring a swimsuit and towel.
All in all, we had a great time and my son definitely enjoyed it. SO if you’re looking for someplace new to take kids and don’t mind driving to Grapevine, keep it in mind. Grapevine Mills mall is awesome, you can take up the other half of the day exploring it.
